A guy got a lot of praise online for not changing seats with a pregnant lady on a plane. He shared the story on Reddit, saying he was flying alone to see family for the holidays. He purposely picked a seat by the bathroom. Right before getting on the plane, a pregnant lady asked him to switch so she could be closer to the bathroom. She didn’t seem upset or anything, according to him.
This guy, using the name u/Michael Donelly on Reddit, posted about it on December 15 with the title “AITA (Am I the A**hole) for not giving up my airline seat to a pregnant woman?”. He explained that he paid extra because he sometimes needs quick access to the bathroom due to a medical issue. So, he didn’t want to change his seat, which he chose and paid for, especially since the pregnant lady didn’t book an aisle seat in advance.
He also said the flight attendants didn’t help, and there were no empty aisle seats for the pregnant lady. He ended by saying his family supported the pregnant woman, thinking he should have made things difficult for himself.
Since he shared it, the Reddit post got more than 15,000 upvotes. People in the comments praised him for keeping his seat because he planned for it before the flight. One person said, “NTA. [Not the a] She should have booked another seat she wanted herself or not gone on the flight. Seems she just assumed she wouldn’t have to pay for it, since some sucker was going to move. The flight attendants are at fault for not mediating. At some point, they should have told her to go back to her seat (and all of this is regardless of your medical issues. You paid for the seat. She didn’t).”
Someone else agreed, saying, “Because she felt entitled to it because she was pregnant. She thought she could use that to her advantage. But she found out she couldn’t. And rightfully so OP!!! You booked and paid for that seat. NTA.”
Another person shared, “NTA – I say this as someone who has been pregnant and has flown solo with a toddler … every passenger has equal opportunity to pre-book seats based on their needs and preferences. It’s no one’s business why you booked that seat. Was the passenger or airline going to reimburse you for the cost of pre-booking the seat? Zero obligation for you to move.”
