In the busy streets of Boston, something upsetting happened to an Indian student studying in the United States. This story is about a taxi driver leaving the student, Shreya Verma, stranded without her stuff. Shreya shared this tough experience on LinkedIn. She’s a student at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This all went down on her way to Logan International Airport.
The trouble started when Shreya realized she forgot her headphones at the beginning of her Lyft ride. Trying to get them back, she asked the Lyft driver to go back to her place. Sadly, when she got back, the ride was canceled, and her luggage was gone. Because of this sudden stop, Shreya didn’t have the necessary info to track down her things right away.
Shreya wrote about her tough time on LinkedIn and included screenshots of her talks with Lyft’s customer service. She told the story of what happened as she headed to Boston airport at 6 PM. The driver surprisingly canceled, taking all her things, like her passport, VISA, OPT/EAD Card, electronics, and important documents. The total loss added up to a huge $30,000.
Even though Shreya tried hard to get help from Lyft’s customer service, she couldn’t because she didn’t have the driver’s important details. Working with the Cambridge Police Department and The Corporation of the City of Cambridge didn’t help much because they didn’t have the right info. Legal processes, including subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants, were slow and emotionally draining.
Shreya’s story got a lot of attention online, and Lyft’s official LinkedIn profile replied, thanking her for her ongoing support. They promised to act quickly and said they were talking to the Lyft driver. Lyft CEO David Risher also said sorry, recognizing how tough it was for Shreya.
This sad incident not only messed up Shreya’s plans to see her family in India but also happened while her dad is fighting cancer. The police are still looking into it, and Shreya is waiting for some good news. Her journey to be with her family got unexpectedly difficult because of this incident.
